On a perfect Spring evening, Tyler and Rebecca went to their local neighborhood bar to have a drink, followed by a stroll through their neighborhood and a walk through Prospect Park. They wanted their engagement photos to represent them, so they decided to take them in places that were familiar to them and their relationship. That way, when they look back in the future at these, they will remember what it felt like in this era: where the lived, what they liked to do, where they liked to spend their time.
That philosophy is so important to me; rather than dressing up fancy and going some place that you’ve seen other people go for engagement photos before, I wholeheartedly believe in crafting a session that represents this stage of your lives.
We started out with photos at Ottava, a bar that they frequent near their home, which was so special. Rather than posed photos, I documented them doing what they do — in this case, having a drink together at their local haunt.
Then they changed into everyday clothes and we took a stroll around their neighborhood, which represented their day to day lives in Park Slope. We ended the session with some photos in Prospect Park, which is always a beautiful place to shoot. Lucky for us, the trees were just starting to bloom.
